Well, heat is energy and no electronics really like to have a bunch of uncontrolled energy within its case. Try leaving a calculator in your car on a sunny day! Whether it's the screen or the rest of the unit, it sounds like the K3 is not the device you want on a tropical vacation!
It could be worse, the sun could slow down in the presence of a K3.
