Some old friends of mine had a band called "The Don't Quit Your Day Job Players". They did a gig at a club in the Village in NYC, starting off with "A priest, a rabbi, and a professor walk into a bar..." The bartender said "What is this, a joke?" The reply was "No, it's a band!"

While all were writers, they hadn't given up their day jobs. The leader/singer/guitarist was a reform rabbi and software QA guy. The violinist/violist/backup vocalist was an Orthodox Catholic priest and concert violist (and married to the rabbi.) The second guitarist/mandolin player/backup vocalist was an adjunct professor of music. The percussionist was the only full-time writer, but he had an employed spouse whose income smoothed out the peaks and valleys in his income while he waited for contracts to be signed/checks to be written.
