The "change the DRM" route is via kindlefix. This flips one bit in the ebook so that it works on a Kindle if the lending library ebook was originally checked out with the Kindle's PID. It is probably easier to go the mobidedrm route, but kindlefix isn't circumventing DRM - the lending library (acting for the publisher and the author) has authorized you to read the ebook on your Kindle and all kindlefix does is allow you to do this.
