In order to deregister the 600 his son will have to connect it to his computer, then use his account to deregister it. The dad will then need to register it to his account either using ADE or the Sony Library software. The latter if he wants to buy Sony books through the Sony Store.

He can of course copy non-DRMed books to it with calibre or with a USB cable. If he copies via a USB cable he will not be able to place them in a collection though.
