You don't need to register the Reader just to copy the DRM-free books. If you have the files ready, you don't even need Calibre - just copy them to the Reader's drive.

However, you cannot "add" DRM-ed books to an already registered device. If you change the registered user (I'm not even sure it's possible without unregistering first), the books of the original user will become unreadable.
