Please tell me how then... Last i checked (and that was yesterday), I could only add a tag, not a subtag (so I can say show all series from that and that author).

The kitchen does take precedence at the moment. And yes, all our money goes into it right now. And as my 160GB is enough at this moment, I have no plans to upgrade it simply because I can't set Calibre to skip to copying... That's absolutely not worth the money.

With calibre, you really need only one copy, the one calibre makes, and a back up (two, one offsite and one onsite, is even better). If you need your originals back for whatever reason, calibre can recreate them for you. If you need a different format than the one calibre has (and don't want or can't have all your formats in calibre), calibre can create it for you. You can always use your calibre books as the working copy and your original files as a back up copy. It will take longer to rebuild if the calibre files get lost but at least the option to do so is there. How much storage space you can afford is determined by how valuable your data is to you; can you afford to lose it if not backed up?
What part of my conversion process did you miss? I use the mobipocket on my WinCE/WinMobile devices and the PDF on my BBMini. Only the epub is extra (I originally wanted to use that on my BBMini, but I hate the implementation of the reader). I have not yet been able to get Calibre to format my raw html into a PDF that I actually like (which is why I use LaTeX). Again, if you know how, please tell me. Right now, I have made an application, that with one push of the button (ok, two), checked the source for HTML validity and then generates the epub, mobi and PDF files. I then insert my (mini)SD cards into my computer and copy the folders.

Calibre is a nice program, but absolutely not perfect. It might be perfect for you, but for me it only creates a strain on my external HD (which is backup btw on my NAS) which is not necessary. But Calibre gave me a nice idea about a new project: create a catalog application, with a folder-like structure, which will read the meta data from my books but won't copy it.
