I don't buy or read books specifically based upon the author's gender - that is immaterial to me.

But having said that, I'd say that the majority of my books are by women authors, mainly because they are the main writers of books that have a strong romance element, be they mystery/suspense, paranormal, fantasy, scifi or just general fiction/romance - which I enjoy.

The books in my collection that are by male writers tend to be non-fiction, scifi, fantasy and mystery.

BUT - that author who's at the top of my collection list (with 44 books, some multiples of the same book due to hardcover/paperback/audiobook versions) is David Weber. The next time a male author shows up, though, is at #15 (Eric Flint). In my collection, out of the top 35 authors shown, only 5 are men.
