If a tag has sub-tags in it, it will show those sub-tags. So, a sub-tag will show up twice in a tag-list. Once as child of a tag, and once "in the root" so to speak.

All of which calibre does.

On my income...excuse me, lack of income? I'm retired. I have to go on a mustard sandwich (without the bread) diet to afford new things. fortunately, I like mustard.

The only format I don't use is epub (except to generate my mobi books). Because Calibre insists of making a copy of the books I add, it's a complete waste of space. I tried to import it all in Calibre, but it decided to handle each format as a different book, instead of making it all one book, with 3 formats...
You keep four copies of each book ( ), albeit in different formats, then complain about calibre making a copy? I can see keeping an orginal copy of something that has been converted to a different format (such as PDF) so revisons can be made but do you really need all four copies? With calibre, you really need only one copy, the one calibre makes, and a back up (two, one offsite and one onsite, is even better). If you need your originals back for whatever reason, calibre can recreate them for you. If you need a different format than the one calibre has (and don't want or can't have all your formats in calibre), calibre can create it for you. You can always use your calibre books as the working copy and your original files as a back up copy. It will take longer to rebuild if the calibre files get lost but at least the option to do so is there. How much storage space you can afford is determined by how valuable your data is to you; can you afford to lose it if not backed up?
