My order date was August 24th. I mailed Kindle today for an update, and at 1pm got a response saying (as originally agreed when I ordered it) on or before 17 September.
I then got an email at 3pm, stating that it would now be on or before 23 September.
Calling Amazon (well, using the call-me-back thing) got me through to someone who said that I was told a lie, that I wouldn't get it on or by the 17th, but by 23 September, as they've run out of stock in the UK. (Although I'll take this to mean that they can't meet the requests for most orders placed, so some people may get it.)
Not entirely pleased, since not only did the pre-order date say 17th, but they obviously were only going to tell me if I asked them about it (and even then got it wrong!) so I do hope they'll give me free same day shipping when it does finally come back in
