i will have to come back when the phone is charged. i do recall though that in explorer (XP) there was just aicon of a phone as a sub directory and the sd card as a separate one, and yet in callibre none of those appeared in the directory structure.
no network drives -its a stand alone PC, desktop. however i do have drive letters c through h. [basically a dvd writer and some card readers]. As i said i will retry this tomorrow - the battery needs recharging. thanks for your help.

You have to select mass storage in usb settings of your phone and then you get a notification to mount the drives press yes and then you will see the drives.
