Its great that Kindle has many other options beyond Amazon, but the only reason this thread took off on this obscurely related subject is because the OP said:

While we have learned here that the Kindle is NOT locked into Amazon as a book source, and even if they were, the selection and pricing at Amazon makes it a comfortable prison cell, no one would have responded at all to the SP if the post had said "I can buy books from many other sources, too."
