I followed the 'symbol' option at lunchtime for my 47 collections and it worked a treat. I discovered that different 'symbols' have priority
_ is first,
. is second
* is third
I didn't try any other symbols, but those three work for me, and for each symbol the collections are sorted within alpha order for that symbol
