Larry Niven does some great SF with plenty of "hard science" thrown in
But his "Inferno" and "Escape from Hell" with Jerry Pournelle have very little to do with that, but are must reads (updating Dante's Inferno)
Inferno was written mid-70s and Escape from Hell - the sequel - written 2 years ago !
Long wait for a follow up !
