They are less picky about who they sell to as well. I wanted to get the new book by Stephen Hawking ('The Grand Design'), but although there is a Kindle edition, Amazon won't sell it to me; it's geographically restricted for Europe.
I could buy the ePub at Kobo without a problem. A minute of DRM stripping and conversion later I was in business.
Which once again proves the stupidity of georestrictions...
