I checked out a Kobo yesterday and a Nook today. I definitely noticed the delay on the Kobo (about a "one-Missiissippi) but the Nook seemed fine. I definitely second the opinion above: go check a Nook out at a B&N. The two stores near me have display desks right by the front entrance and someone comes over to talk to you as soon as they see you playing with it.
