also do you have a Barnes and noble in your area? I found the e-readers in the Best Buy by me get virtually no attention or care from the store. The Nook and Sony displays are relugated to an area next to the refridgerators and nobody know anything about them. I see the charging plugs falling out of the devices. Best Buy can really give two craps about the ereaders, at least the Best Buy in my area and it sounds like your area as well.
But yeah if there is a Barnes and Noble near you, you should have a much better experience
and to answer your question, I find the nook page turning to be very smooth and fast. and yup eink has the flash, no getting around that
