I would first decide what type of mystery story you like. Then ask the manager for a recommendation of an author or two.

I downloaded a free short story during Read an eBook Week that I enjoyed very much called East Village Noir by Russell Atwood. As I recall, he has written two novels. Perhaps your store carries his books.
