Quite so, that is what I do now and what I would continue to do if I had a slate to replace my tablet PC. I use my phone as a phone not as an MP3 player or reader as I prefer to preserve battery power for phone calls. That said, I normally keep my tablet in standby so it's available for use in 20 seconds or so which is quick enough for me.

The ExoPC might end-up being a great new device which is more similar to an ipad than to a Windows 7 laptop, I don't know yet, but from 15 years experience with very similar devices, I'm quite skeptical at this point. From what I see on the link to exopc.com, I don't see very much different than what I'm using now.
I want a slate to replace my X61 tablet and that is what I will compare the ExoPC against, not the iPad which I view as a souped up iPod/iPhone intended for media and web "consumers" rather than a general purpose computing device which is what I need.

If the handwriting/pen input is good enough on the ExoPC then this looks a very promising device and I'd also use it for technical/large format document reading until a suitable reader comes along. However, I'm still waiting to see what ASUS offer later this year in terms of eReaders and slates though.
