I usually wait for years. For PDA's, I waited until I could get a Palm IIIxe used for $25 or so. But I think that the no-monthly-fee 3G web service, which makes this such a bargain in my mind, may be gone if I wait that long. For the last couple days, I have gotten zero crashes, after getting maybe two last week. Just reading books and Instapaper, I have had no problems, with or without background music playing.

Compared to Windows 3, I think Kindle 3 is reasonably stable. (Or was Windows 95 the bad one?)

One thing I did NOT do is put dozens of books on the device. I read three books at once, max, and have no interest in a handheld library. Maybe this contributes to stability, maybe not. I do have hours of MP3's on there.
