Interesting comments. I put this question up because competitions work with almost every other product known to man. You're looking at this from the perspective of the indie book seller on this site (which is what it is :-)). Imagine for a moment though that a sticker in the top right hand corner of a printed book on a bookshelf say in Borders or B&N from a major publisher, say Penguin or Random house - Buy this book for a chance to win a safari in Africa (let's say the book was a biography of Hemingway.
Would that change the perception?
