There's no economical way to fix a unit with some glitchy, crashy issue that could be anywhere on the mainboard. A defective cellular radio is the only bit of electronics that can be swapped out. It's worth sending a bad board to the lab to see if there's a defect in the design or manufacturing process, but that board's already blown it's chance to make a customer happy.
Any physical deformities are obvious to diagnose, and easily turned around for replacement. Something like a quasimodoially moulded case, or a keyboard twisted into an eldritch Dvorak curse would get refurbished quickly.
