For whatever it's worth, I measured the voltage needed to charge the reader. The 500 requires 4.25V to begin charging, the 505 only 4.06V, at least this is the Voltage needed for the LED to come on. This means that it charges the battery way under the 5.2V and should make a solar cell viable.
