The software version is the same for everybody. Not every Kindle WiFi on the planet can be broken so don't consider anything B008A0A as a "bad lot" as this is just causing panic.
Thanks for the voice of calm. I am going on holiday in a weeks time and am taking mine with me. I think I will buy a couple of paperbacks just in case things go a bit wrong, so my holiday isn't completly ruined. Jean Plaidy isn't available in kindle now anyway and I want to read some of hers again.
