One of my previous devices (non-backlit LCD screen) ran on a couple of AA batteries and the beauty is, you can carry a few spares with you.
I had 6 pieces of 2400 mAh rechargeable batteries and I never ran out of power.
And if you get stranded somewhere, there is always somebody with a charger, or you can buy 4 pack at the newspaper stand.
