A few years ago I paid my son to rip my 300-odd vinyl albums to CD. My proper, bought CD collection is about another 500. Mostly though I actually listen to mp3 - just rip a few as and when I'm in the mood for that particular artist or genre. Eventually I guess everything will be format shifted to mp3...by which time that will be an ancient format that no one except old timers with degraded hearing and who don't know any better will be listening to.
