For what it's worth, you
can play around with the app without a kindle. Just format a usb drive (or any drive probably) with the name "KINDLE" and create folders on it called "documents" and "system" and the app seems to be perfectly happy. Put your books in documents and play away!
Nice way to test things out without having to keep resetting/recovering your kindle if you're trying "weird" things.
