Very interesting, thanks, Amazon's example would be even more interesting however.
In case of Sony Readers:
FB2 is out of question, that's basically gray part of former USSR market (piracy).
Improved contrast is irrelevant.
Faster page turns are only possible if original frimware sucked.
Same for reduced power consumption.
List of changes makes me wonder about how stable was the original firmware, especially when you compare it to Sony's.
Don't get me wrong, I think Sony could have improved stuff on older readers, it's just, what they release is very polished from the beginning and their quality standards are much higher than that of smaller competitors => updates cost them a lot more.
