Question Just Curious: Format of Author Field

Hi There,

I've been wondering the answer to this and haven't found the answer mentioned here on the forum or in the Calibre User Guide or FAQ.

I've seen mention that it is preferable to have the author's name listed in the Author field as "FirstName LastName", rather than "LastName, FirstName" (as it is in the Author Sort field), but no answer as to why.

Is there a particular reason for that?

I just ask because I'm a librarian and we tend to use the "LastName, FirstName" format, so I was hoping to do it that way for both the Author and the Author Sort fields in my Calibre library.

Any reason I should not do that? For instance, will it screw up things when I send it to my device (which is a Kindle 3)? And/or does it mess up the metadata file in Calibre?

Thanks in advance for any guidance/clarity you can give!
