THANK YOU!
Mike, that is exactly the kind of info I was looking for! I'm not entirely sure how to go about finding this out, but Google is generally my friend.
The book is "Sinbad and Me" by Kin Platt. It's a Tempo Book by Grosset & Dunlap of NY. I paid a hard earned 60 cents for it way back when! Considering how many times I read it when I was a kid, I'm amazed it is still intact, though it was helped along by the application of a couple strips of magic tape to the spine many years ago.
I'm honestly not sure just what the demand is. Probably not enough to produce it again in print. What I do know is that it seems like anyone who has read the story remembers it and some people are looking for it because they enjoyed it themselves and want to share it with their children or grandchildren, as the case may be. That's why I'd love to see it get out there again, legitimately. Otherwise it could be lost to the world eventually. It did win a "Best Juvenile Mystery of the Year" award from The Mystery Writers of America.
I am also thinking that the publisher Farrar, Straus and Giroux might know who has the rights, because a "A Mystery For Thoreau" by Kin Platt was published posthumously in 2008.
Maybe the thing to do would be to write them and ask. At any rate, it will probably be some time before I have the text in digital form and there are also some code diagrams to potentially deal with.
Anyway, if anyone has contacts, or knows what I need to know to get in touch with the literary or general executor, feel free to get in touch!
