yes, that's how it worked with the kindle 2.
However, some things have changed with the K3, it seems without announcement.
They're saying that if you have your kindle's wifi on, and you send it to the @free address, it will automatically push it onto your kindle via the wifi, so there's no need to sideload it via USB.
But then, like I said, yesterday I sent two documents over to my kindle at the @kindle.com address, and my kindle downloaded them over wifi. And I'm still waiting for my 30 cents in charges to show up. I think they might have structured it so that only time you're charged now is if you use the 3g to download it.
