Although I'm normally a very vocal Sony-hater, I decided to risk ordering a Reader from an eBay seller in the US. After delivery (two weeks) and the forty quid import tax I got stung for, it cost me a very reasonable (in my opinion, anyway) £200. If the thing ever gets released officially in the UK, I wouldn't be overly surprised to see it retail at twice that.
Having spent three days playing with my Reader, I'm very impressed with it, and so are most of the people I've shown it to (except the one guy who was like, 'it's okay, but ...' before trying to tell me how much more awesome his
mobile phone was). Having suffered with reading on Palms and Pocket PCs in the past, the Reader has so far blown me away.
As seems to be the case with most users, the only problem I have had with it is in getting it to work with PDF documents with images in (ie, Cisco books and the like). PDFLRF makes them very readable, however. I also started using Book Designer straight away for novels, which is another awesome application.
I don't read much nowadays (too busy gaming and trawling aimlessly through the web), but I now feel compelled to, and already have a load of novels lined up.
