7 inches is not too big as a portable ereader - if you check out the device dimensions they are the same size as 6 inch ereaders - you can get them into large jacket pockets. I have a 7 inch android apad that fits perfectly into a kindle carry case. I read a lot of news articles etc on my galaxy and find the contrast not a problem at all - in fact much better than my ereaders in low light. If I were too read for more than a couple of hours in 1 shot then I would prefer ereader inking but most times I only read for 30-60 minutes at a time and the Galaxy interface is better. The screen is fantastic
