have you ever tried a "shedder"? this picture is'nt the greatest, but one side of it has little teeth kind of like a miniature saw (but not as sharp). the blade as you can see is flexible. you hold onto the handles and swipe it across the coat. I've always used these on horses. it also works wonders on wet coats!
