just to be a nit-picker...because of the materials used and how they work, no EPD panel made to date can have a backlight. The PRS700 had side lighting.
Still it would be interesting if eventually there are several or just one type of particles in the cells. Maybe some translucent particles which respond to a given voltage but remain dormant when the opaque and reflective particles are needed and the back light it off...or even translucent particles which respond somehow to the activation of a backlight...I think it must be fun and frustrating to work on this field of engineering & physics so many ideas and few of which seem workable. Then again it was a kid's science project that increased HDD storage in a way that we can now have TB sized drives in the same or smaller space as the old methods of aligning the data...so I'm sure, there is gonna be a solution out there from a very unexpected source someday.
