The books in collections created for the series are in Series order.

Calibre has never used the Send to device template to change how the Title metadata is displayed on any reader. Put simply the 600 showed the title exactly has you had it listed in the metadata displayed in calibre.

The series index is used to ensure the books in collections are in series order.

Personally all of my collections are created via tags and series and the books in my series collections have been in order for over a year. I don't need to see the series index in the title to know the books are in order.

If you really need to verify you're reading the correct book in a series you have two obvious options.

1. Convert each book with the Insert metadata as page at start of book checked under Preferences - Conversion - Structure detection. This will insert a book jacket like the attached as the first page past the cover in your book.

2. Create a catalog of all of your books by using the drop down arrow to the right of the convert books icon. Keep this epub on your device and refer to the order whenever you have doubts.

If you insist on using Books by Title instead of Collections to find your series then you will have to manually edit each book title. Why you would want to do this is beyond me.
