I finished Ann Radcliffe's "The Castles of Athlin and Dunbayne" which I thought was a bit of a disappointment. I like her later novels where possible paranormal things happen that are later debunked.
I'm now reading David Gatesbury's "The Haunting of Strathmoor Heights", it's okay but not exactly subtle. The feelings of the main character aren't really described which makes the story not as scary as it could have been. It's just mentioned that she's scared when she sees a ghost and when it has gone the main character goes on with her business as if nothing happens.
It makes me want to reread Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House" again. One of the few novels that I found scary.
