I hesitated to post because I'm a little angry. I've calmed down now and I'm still angry.
My account page started reading "Shipping Soon" just before noon August 26. I checked my bank account and my Kindle was billed at the same time so, since I'd paid for "next day delivery" (something I seldom do) I naturally thought that meant my Kindle should arrive today. (24 hours, right?)
Today it changed to "Shipped." Joy! I clicked the tracking button only to discover it left their facility in Kentucky at noon today and is scheduled to reach me tomorrow. (48 hours, right?) I had rearranged my schedule to be home to accept the delivery so I was miffed and called Amazon CS to ask for a refund of the "next day delivery" charge (they didn't provide it, right? 48 =/= 24)
No deal. Turns out Amazon has until August 27 to deliver the Kindle and shipping early was "an upgrade" that I apparently had no right to. No Kindle. No refund.
So much for "next day delivery
