Here in Australia we used to get all our books from the UK, but nowadays the majority seems to come from the US. (With one slight modification - it's not at all unusual to find the content of the book set in US English spelling, but it to be bound with a cover set in Australian English. It's a trifle schizophrenic.) So, the copy of "Dragon Tattoo" I was lent having the same translator as the US edition is no surprise, and it's no clear indicator that a separate UK translation doesn't actual exist.

What seems to exist is a UK translation that was also used in the US. In a forum about the book I saw complaints from en US reader that the world "gaol" was used and that was taken as an indication that the translations was bad.
