Hi Lara, Welcome to this forum. There is no generally accepted best device or format to choose.
If you want to read books from the library, you need a reader supporting the epub format using adobe drm. On the other hand if you want to buy books with ease, Amazon's azw format is probably best. The 2 formats are not compatible, Amazon's Kindle can read their books, and there are lots of readers which support epub.
There are ways to make one reader able to read both formats, but they make the usage slightly more complicated.
