Well K users can use DRM-Free Mobi books from the tons of small pubs that sell them, Fictionwise Multi-Format, Smashwords, Baen, etc. plus all the PD stuff out there in Mobi.

As for DRM'd stuff it would have to be bought in some other format and disinfected then converted. That or some alternate non-Amazon firmware would be needed. IIRC there is some firmware floating around that lets a Kindle read ePub's, but I don't know anything about it really.
