In some cases, the Bible and any other book they might be wealthy enough to possess would be chained to the altar with big heavy chains. We are blessed now to be so wealthy as a society that we own rooms filled with bookshelves. And how amazing is it that we have problems finding space to store all of them? Of course, in that copious book wealth are mostly junk books not worth saving, but that is another conversation.
