That seems to be a foolish decision on the publisher's part, but they've made a lot of dumb moves with respect to ebooks. It would cost them very little to allow B&N to sell the ebook and they would certainly sell quite a few regardless of B&N's possible future sale.
At any rate, I suspect even if B&N won't carry the ebook, other vendors like the Sony Ebook Store, Fictionwise, Books on Board, Kobo, etc. will, and they will likely be in epub format, compatible with the Nook. Often these don't show up on the sites until the day they're actually for sale, so check back on the release date.
