I had the same issue with purchased ePUB's as well, both on my Kobo and Sony PRS-300.

Unfortunately the only way to fix the problem is to remove DRM infestation and adjust the margins using Calibre.

On a couple of occasions the issue was so bad, the margins took up most of the screen, leaving a small strip of text in the middle of the screen.
