What am I doing over here on the Pocket PC side of the world??
Well, I took the plunge into the dark side!
I just bought a Toshiba e405 off
www.woot.com for $149.99 + $5 s/h.

I think it's reconditioned, the battery life is only 3-4hrs, and I don't even know if that's the best price out there. Plus Alex is right about Toshiba leaving the PDA market. But hey, even so, it's a relatively easy and cheap way to find out what all this PPC talk is about. Who knows... I might even like the dark side.
I did hear you can get older Dells pretty cheap also, but I'm the sort of guy that may wait 6mos to buy something till something strikes my fancy and then BOOM!... it looks like an impulse buy. (Last nite, before I saw the woot item, I had decided to buy a T5. Oh well, sorry Palm... but I'll be back.)
I already have a 1gig SD card I was planning to use with a T5, which will get good use with this PDA now. Bottom line is that will give me a chance to play with PPC because PalmOne is not impressing me with the T5 bugs, slow adoption of Cobalt OS6 (although that seems to be PalmSource's fault) and their focus on smartphones. This experiment will hold me over while there's a lull in the action until PalmOne fixes the T5 bugs and the Cobalt PDAs are being readied for market by PalmOne and Tapwave. If nothing else, it will at least solve my mp3 player needs for a while.
I'm not looking forward to the learning curve though... I don't have as much time for this sort of thing as I did in my younger days
Craig, maybe you can give me some tips and even help me understand game emulation. (Mind a few PMs every now and then?)
And because I plan to go back to Palm next year, I'm going to be trying to survive on almost freeware exclusively. We'll see if that works.
BTW, I'm not really a convert, at least for now I really still like Palm. But you never know...
