Yes, Izzy, that's exactly what I mean. I'm not sure why, but step 6b has occasionally failed (but not always) if that dir isn't already present. It shouldn't do any harm even if it's not really necessary.
...and you don't seem thick at all, merely cautious, which is a good thing when hacking, I would say.
