One of the reasons the iPad has done so well is that there is no comparable competition. A laptop/netbook simply isn't the same form-factor as the iPad.
If there were an Windows/Linux/Android tablet at the same size/weight/battery life/price, I think it would also sell very well, but there isn't ... yet.
When a proper Android tablet comes out (as opposed to the current poor quality devices) I would expect it to sell well, although probably not as well as the iPad at first, because of name recognition and the established ecosystem around Apple devices.
