Sorry, but I completely disagree. There are a number of advantages to an iPad as an ereader--having a much larger screen and not being limited as to format or a particular ebook retailer are two of the biggest.
And a $10 book light doesn't remotely compare to reading in the dark on the iPad. I read for eighteen months on a Kindle, and tried several book lights during that time. Not one illuminated evenly, and that was on a 6" screen. The iPad is evenly lit across a lot more screen real estate, and the various apps allow me to use black text on white, sepia on off white, or white on black. These options, plus the adjustable brightness, mean I can read the iPad in a number of different lighting conditions without having to carry around supplemental equipment.
The only advantages my Kindle has are reading in bright sunlight, and a lighter weight form factor. I'm a fair skinned redhead...you can imagine how frequently I read outdoors. LOL In truth, I'm pretty equally reading on either device, but like Harry, if I had to pick only one, I'd choose the iPad.
