I think it depends on what kind of book you're reading. For the books of Rober Jordan (the wheel of time) because they are so detailed I like speed-reading as it gives me the feeling of watching a movie... seeing a lot of details, you notice some and then you miss some. But for less detailed books I read at fairly normal speed.

And tips?... Dunno... I usually read kinda one sentence, then one or two words of the next and then the next sentence or when I can predict/see what's going to happen in the next paragraphs I just read single words of it. I think it's rather a personal "choice" of how you do it. But I NEVER speed read technical books/articles.
