Not sure if this is the right forum for that question, but my opinion is that an Islamic Cultural center (it isn't a mosque) located near ground zero would put the lie to the charge mouthed by the enemies of this country who claim that the United States is anti-Muslim. It would also show the world that Muslims are part of the mosaic of American life. We claim that our struggle is with terrorists, not religious ideology, and this would certainly be a case of putting our money where our mouth is. Muslim citizens of this nation should have the same rights as other Americans to build where they see fit. Whether the choice of sites to build was prudent or in the best interests of harmony is another question.

A brief aside: I read on another website where one person recently stated (with tongue firmly in cheek) that he was opposed to the Cultural Center because the plans also call for a swimming pool to be built on the premises, and he found thought of Muslim women prancing around the poolside clad in only burkinis to be disturbing.

For the record, the Cultural Center is to be open to everyone, not just Muslims.

Also for the record: Within that other ground zero site, the Pentagon, there are already patriotic Americans working there who take time out of each day to face Mecca to pray.
