EPub is becoming the standard for everybody but Amazon. The problem is that it is strongly believed that Amazon has about 70% of the ebook market. So, EPub is the standard for 30% of the market and libraries. No offense, but I don't think that folks using the Kindle are in any danger of losing access to books because of the lack of EPub on the Kindle.

Sony's are very reliable and my guess is you can find the books you are looking for. You might have to do some more research. Check on the Sony board here, thre might be a topic about what ebook stores most the folks who own a Sony use.

I have bought all of my books through Amazon and there have been two books that were not available when I wanted them but that was due to the Penguin/Amazon standoff.
